The increased Mockingbird activity in this tree close to my garden indicates there is another future generation of our state bird on the way. Mockingbirds are my favorites.

So sad about the snake getting the eggs. I have a similar situation except it was my bird eating cat. She is a great ratter and she loves Doves. But last night or early this morning, she caught and ate a Mockingbird. I am sure she enjoyed it, but I will miss the bird. The mockingbirds songs are wonderful to listen to.
Kinda like when Bailey (our adopted Mini-Schnauzer) finds a nest of baby rabbits. I can’t scold her for following her instincts, but DANG it makes me sad! ~TxH~
I have a Mockingbird nest in the vines on my fence. Did you know the male builds several nests and entices female with the choices?
I did not know that. I was pretty excited to eventually see three tiny blue speckled eggs in this nest, but several days later I noticed an absence of activity so I peeked into the nest and it was empty. A snake skin around the nest and woven through the branches confirmed my suspicion. I don’t deny the snakes their nutrition just like all the other living critters, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t very disappointed about this. 🙁 ~TxH~
I haven’t actually looked for a nest, but yesterday when I got in my car at work to go to lunch, a mockingbird landed in the grass near my car, and started hopping around and spreading its wings and acting a bit strange. I feel sure there must be a nest in the crepe myrtles planted by the parking lot.

Mockingbirds are so clever, aren’t they Nikki? There’s one that sits on top of our chimney in the mornings and sings & sings – it echoes down the chimney pipe and I enjoy it sitting in our living room. Mockingbirds are my favorites – they always sound so happy. ~TxH~
